Forged this fire poker for a customer who has a property in the mountains. The land is called "bent nail." So I upset the end of the iron which created a "nail head" then I did some hot chisel work to create the twisted brick effect which is the handle of the tool, next I "bent the handle" this fulfilled 2 things. 1st finished off the "bent nail" concept, 2nd the little bit of a bend lends itself to a more comfortable grip as well as more control while manipulating the tool in the fire. To break up the long run of iron, it being 4 ft in length, I hot twisted it back and forth which creates a wonderfully beautiful effect. From there down the iron was drawn out at a taper, making it thinner which reduces the weight toward the far end and balances the tool out nicely. Finishing the end with a traditional hook and point completed this custom fire poker nicely.
Apoligize for the photos, I could not figure out why they would not stay oriented correctly after uploading.
